I've got the writer's strike blues

So far the writer's strike hasn't affected my TV viewing (except for a couple of episodes of the Office that didn't get made because Steve Carell refuses to cross the picket lines). I think all that is about to change. I am pretty sure this was the last week for new episodes of everything. I noticed at the end of 30 Rock and Grey's Anatomy that there wasn't the usual preview for next week's show. Bummer. Luckily America's Next Top Model and Project Runway are immune to the strike. I will have to bide my time until the strike is over with reruns and reality TV. Oh, and I guess I could pick up a book too.

Burning down the house

Yikes! Yesterday was Jason's birthday, so to celebrate I decided to make him dinner. While I was cooking, I used a dishtowel I had hanging on the oven door to grab the handle on the pan. I turned away for a second and when I turned back I saw that a corner of the towel was under the pan and touching the burner. I grabbed the towel, but it was too late and it was on fire! I ran it over to the sink and ran water on it. No harm done, but it sure scared me!

Outlet Heaven

This past weekend we went to the wedding of a coworker of Jason's in Austin. Kate did great on the drive down, before the wedding and during the ceremony. After that, we could not get her to stop crying. And I am talking screaming bloody murder crying! People would come up to us and say "Oh what a cute baby" but you know they were thinking "I am so glad that's not my child". Oh well. She slept well that night in the hotel which is what I was worried about. She was so funny; before she can fall asleep, she has to have the top of her head touching something. I think it makes her feel more secure, like she's not floating in midair or something. Anyway, I put the cushions off the couch in the hotel room on the floor next to my bed. At the head of the makeshift bed was the night stand with an opening in it to put books and stuff. I put Kate down and left her for a few minutes. When I checked on her, she had scooted her way up, trying to find something for her head to touch. She was almost off the cushions and into the night stand! It was so funny. The day after the wedding on our way back to Houston, we stopped at some awesome outlets in San Marcos. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, but these outlets were amazing! There were some I never even knew existed, like a Pottery Barn/Williams Sonoma store, Aldo, Kate Spade, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, and I could go on and on. I can't wait to go back! But the bank account would probably say differently; it's such a kill joy.

Thanksgiving

Yesterday was great! The rest of my family got to Houston and it was so fun to see them again! I ordered a bunch of side dishes from Boston Market because I didn't feel like cooking a lot of food. Alicia decided it would be fun to cook a big turkey and make homemade rolls, and everything turned out so yummy! Then we spent the rest of the night playing with the Wii. Today the boys went to the NASA space center while the girls braved black Friday and went shopping at the Galleria. It actually wasn't too crowded and we ended up being there for about 6 hours.

Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents, oh my!

My whole family is coming to Houston for Thanksgiving! Alicia and Matt got here today, Janelle is coming tomorrow, and my dad, Bev, Greg, and Paul are coming Thursday. I am soooo excited to see them all and for them to meet Kate finally. I'm not sure how great of an impression Kate made when Alicia and Matt first met her; it was in the evening when she is grumpy and she pretty much just cried until I put her to bed. Hopefully she will be cuter in the morning! After Kate went to bed we played Guitar Hero lll on the Wii. Jason was in heaven!

Super Swing

This picture shows Kate in the swing I just got her. I don't think it really helps her fall asleep any faster, but it definately makes her stay asleep longer. A couple of times I have had to wake her up to feed her because she slept so long in it!
The poor kiddo has a cold right now. It's the first time she has been sick and it is driving me crazy. It doesn't seem to bother her in the least but I feel awful for her.

Bye bye pre-pregnancy clothes

After much consideration (and hoping that one morning I would wake up and magically the baby weight would have melted away) I have decided to donate a lot of my pre-pregnancy clothes. I know that one day I will fit into them again, but it was depressing to have them mocking me in my closet. And besides, now I need a new wardrobe!

2 month checkup

Kate had her 2 month checkup today. She is now 23 1/2 inches long and 10 lbs, 6 oz! She is growing so fast! She also had to have some shots. I had been dreading that part all week but it was over quickly. The doctor also said she has a heart murmur. I'm not too concerned about it because I know they are very common and usually don't indicate a problem, but it still scares me just a little. No one wants to hear that there could be a problem with their baby. And of course I immediately wondered what I had done wrong to cause the murmur which is ridiculous. The doctor will check for it again at her 4 month checkup and I hope it will have gone away by then.

Blessing

We finally had Kate blessed today. We had put it off because there was a possibility of Jason getting a job in Utah and we thought we could wait and bless her then so our families could be there. Unfortunately the job didn't work out so we went ahead and blessed her here. Jason did a great job and so did Kate. She didn't cry until the very end but then she didn't stop! I spent the rest of the meeting outside trying to calm her down.

New Haircut

After 2 months of always putting my hair in a ponytail, I decided to cut it all off. I wanted to go much shorter (think Sienna Miller), but my hairstylist talked me out of it.
